PLM, H+6 : Team ORECA-Matmut to comfort its 3rd position
After six hours of racing, Team ORECA-Matmut is in third place, two laps behind the No. 8 Peugeot 908 and No. 1 Audi R18. After a good start from Nicolas Lapierre, who led several laps early on, Marc Gené and Nicolas Minassian continued the work started by their teammate. They each completed a double stint, adopting an excellent pace while avoiding trouble. Leaders at the third way mark, the team has been running in third since the fourth hour. The drivers of the No. 10 Peugeot 908 HDi FAP are attacking to widen the gap to their closest competitors.
« My two stints went well, » declared Marc Gené after exiting the car. « During my first stint, there were several safety car periods and the traffic was pretty bad. I prefered to be careful. In my second stint, I had a lot more confidence. The car was very well balanced. I attacked as much as possible while being perhaps a little less aggressive than the leaders in the traffic. Team ORECA-Matmut was very quick in the pit stop and the team has put in place a very good strategy. »
« It’s the first time that we completed two stints without a safety car period, » notes Nicolas Minassian. « The car was leaning toward understeering a little, but globally it was comfortable. I had a lot of traffic and depending on the location, you can lose a lot of time. Nonetheless, I’d rather be safe than sorry. We’re in a good position and we are trying to stay as close as possible to the leaders. We’re giving i tour all and we must continue like this. »
