THE CONCEPT
Created in 1997, the French GT Championship has long made proud the GT1 (GTS until 2004) before the GT3 no longer competed for victory beginning in 2010. Now named GT Tour, it consists of these Grand Touring cars who, if they are to be considered real racing cars, nevertheless retain the genes of the model series.
The most prestigious brands have committed to GT Tour: Porsche, defending champion, will face tough competition with its 911 GT3-R. They face fellow Germans Audi, with the R8 LMS, and also the BMW Z4 and the new Mercedes SLS! The lovely Italians will also be there, with legendary firms Ferrari, with the F458, newest creations from Maranello, and Lamborghini, with the Gallardo. Not to forget the Americans, with Corvette and its Z06, and also Dodge and its Viper. To this must be added the high standing of Aston Martin and the originality of the Morgan Aero.
It’s a platform that mixes history, class, diversity, and sportsmanship. Undoubtedly, many battles will be waged over the seven stages of GT Tour. Seven stages in which the best drivers of the Hexagon (and of neighboring countries) will be associated with experienced gentlemen drivers. Although two races are scheduled for every weekend, Saturday’s will be Endurance (75 minutes), while Sunday’s will be a sprint (45 minutes) that promises to be a show! But before this, the teams will have to go through qualifying, an event all its own which will unfold in two phases with the top 10 facing off in a final session rich in suspense.
The GT Tour will travel to these seven tracks and will be accompanied by several series, the newest of which is the French F4 championship, reserved for young drivers who will compete in Formula Academy single-seaters. Also present will be the Porsche Carrera Cup, the Seat Leon Cup, Clio Cup and Mitjet Series.
